Verbania has grown from a small town on the Borromean Gulf to a large city through the merger of small towns.  Since the 19th century, writers, painters and poets have settled in the region and the sight of Lake Maggiore and the unique landscape have influenced many works of art.

The old houses are all surrounded by plants and gardens. On every walk you can discover something new.

Even the hospital has that unmistakable Italian charm. At first I thought it was abandoned until I encountered a doctor in a white coat. This building is supposed to have a fully functional maternity ward, operating rooms and an emergency room.

At the highest point of the village stands the friendly church, where every Sunday people meet for worship and sharing.

In a cozy little coffee shop, right on the lake, we met a friendly Scottish woman. She has been living near Verbania for many years and told us a lot about the region.   Thanks to her, our destination for the next day was already set.

And so we ended the day with a wonderful glass of Italian wine and a colorful spectacle.
